Terms and Conditions

Your pet is important to us. At Crowned Canine we want to assure you that every effort will be taken to make your pet's visit as pleasant and stress-free as possible. However, it is important to realize that all pets react differently to grooming. If your pet requires extra assistance to complete the groom, there will be an extra handling fee added to your regular grooming charge.

We typically work one on one, meaning when your pet(s) is/are scheduled, we are only working on your pet(s). We try to not overlap appointments so that your beloved pet(s) can get the attention they deserve. For this reason, it is not always possible to change a groom after the service. If you would like anything changed in the future, please let us know so that we can meet your needs and expectations at future appointments. Please note that due to the nature of our scheduling, we might be in the back bathing and/or drying our next appointment when you arrive for pick-up. In this situation, the door will probably be locked, please call 505.550.6002.

We do everything possible to make sure your pet’s time with us is as pleasant as possible. Unfortunately, occasionally grooming can expose previously hidden medical issues, or aggravate current ones. This can happen during or after grooming.

It's possible that an accident could occur during grooming. Utmost care and caution will always be taken, but cuts, scratches, nicks, and quickening of nails could occur, but Crowned Canine cannot be responsible for any conditions or problems discovered during grooming.

Should we determine, at our discretion, that urgent veterinary care is required, due to a preexisting health issue, undisclosed or otherwise. I, the pet owner, agree to pay all associated fees and costs, for any injury not associated with the grooming. If my pet’s vet is not available, I authorize Crowned Canine to use their chosen vet.

Every effort will be taken to make sure your pet gets groomed as safely and carefully as possible. Unfortunately, accidents DO happen. Pets are licking, scratching, jumping, and overall wiggly creatures. Whereas grooming tools, by necessity, are sharp instruments. If there is a severe mishap, we will contact you immediately but will take the necessary measures to get your pet the medical attention he/she requires. Crowned Canine will NOT be responsible for ANY costs related to this.

Senior pet (age 9+): Senior pets are at greater risk of mental or physical stress.

I agree that I have truthfully informed Crowned Canine if my pet has ever bitten another animal or a human, or if they have any other aggressive tendencies. I agree and understand that I will be held solely responsible for any injury, harm, or damage to property caused by my pet.

Crowned Canine has the right to refuse to groom any pet in an unsatisfactory state, including, but not limited to, behavioral issues, fleas, ticks, other parasites, kennel cough or other contagious diseases.

Crowned Canine will not be responsible for the accidental death of the pet because of any undisclosed pre-existing health condition.

Crowned Canine cannot be liable for any after-grooming effects of de-matting, clipping, or brushing procedures, or problems uncovered on a badly matted or otherwise neglected coat including, but not limited to, skin redness, itchiness, or self-inflicted irritations from excessive external scratching or rubbing. Time and costs associated with de-matting are unpredictable. I agree to pay whatever fees are incurred because of de-matting. Whether a dog is matted is at the sole discretion of Crowned Canine.
Matted Coat Policy: Dogs or cats with matted coats will require extra attention. If the matting is MINIMAL and the pet responds well, we may demat for an extra fee of $10 per 15 minutes of brushing. However, if the matting is SEVERE the least painful and most humane way to remove the mats is by shaving the pet. There is a greater risk of nicking or scratching a matted pet during the grooming process. In addition, the skin may appear red, itchy, and irritated due to the lack of oxygen to the skin under the mats. Crowned Canine will NOT be held responsible for any injury sustained while grooming a matted pet, including any aftereffects. This includes, but is not limited to swelling, redness, itchiness, and self-inflicted abrasions due to external rubbing.

Double coats: At Crowned Canine we make every effort to minimize shedding. We DO NOT shave double coated breeds unless deemed medically necessary.

Handstripping and carding: At Crowned Canine we do offer both handstripping for wire coated breeds and carding for many sporting type breeds (spaniels, setters, etc). Please let us know in advance if this is a service requested. Handstripping achieves best results with more frequent grooms. Please note that longer periods between sessions may result in a "blown coat" where we will need pull the coat down and may result in some balding. Handstripping and carding are "timed" services with 1–4-hour intervals and will be charged as such.

Creative grooming/coat coloring: We do offer coat coloring and dyeing with ONLY PET SAFE VEGAN dyes. Please let us know in advance if coat coloring is a desired service so that we can schedule accordingly. Please note that color altering or creative grooming will add time to your pet's groom and your pet may need time to rest during the session or may need multiple sessions. Whilst coloring is often done on white to light colored coats, we do offer lightening coat creams for darker coated dogs. If we are using a lightening cream, we will most likely need to work in stages with appointments a day to a week apart. Also, we do recommend patch tests. Coat coloring and creative is a "timed" service and is charged as such.

Photo release: Here at Crowned Canine, we love what we do and like to take photos of our grooming or of us with your pet. All photos posted online or on social media are property of Crowned Canine.

We now operate a strict $50 non-refundable booking system per dog for all new or infrequent clients. Customers are required to pay non-refundable Booking fee at the point of booking. Booking fee will go towards the total cost of the full groom. ALL payments are final and non-refundable, our pricing is based on the work involved with each individual dog. Regular scheduled grooming will help to keep more uniformed pricing.

Due to no show appointments, we also operate a strict policy on missed appointments, and I agree that if I need to change an appointment, I will notify Crowned Canine no less than 48 hours before the booked appointment. If insufficient notice is given, I agree to pay the FULL price of the estimated grooming charges. If appointments are missed on a regular basis, pre-payment will be required, more than three no shows or late cancellations may result in the forfeit of future appointments. At Crowned Canine we are aware that emergencies or sudden illness may occur, please let us know and we will work with you on your pet’s appointment(s).

We politely request that all customers drop off and collect on time. Late collections, 30 mins over the given collection time, will result in a $10 per every 15-minute past that collection time. (please note this charge is a deterrent as we are not a licensed pet sitting service). We endeavor to avoid all extra charges, but persistent late collectors will be charged. Late payment fees may apply.

We politely ask all clients to clean up after their dogs, should they need the bathroom outside.  Waste bags are available and attached to the trashcan.
